Business and Industry Position - HTEC

Instructor for the Gene Haas Training and Education Center located at the Lebanon, Indiana campus. This is a full-time, professional staff position with full benefits.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBLITIES include, but are not limited to the following:

• Helping with the ongoing development of the HTEC and related training and certification programs at VU Gene Haas Training and Education Center.

• Help the VU HTEC lab maintain NIMS and VA Accreditation.

• This position requires strong teaching and leadership skills.

• Instructor’s primary role will be to teach the 16 week CNC Machinist NOW program that is focused on military veteran and civilian adult learners.

• Instructor may also help train and certify industrial customers as needed.

Reporting to the Vincennes University Early College Dean, the Assistant Dean of Instruction is responsible for academic and administrative oversight of all programs and services offered at Prosser Career Education Center. • Serve on a team of advisors advising over 1000 current students as well as prospective students regarding selection of a college, a major course of study, and an appropriate delivery method.

• Articulate the requirements of over 26 degree programs and the benefits of obtaining a degree.

• Work with new students to develop an individualized plan to reach their academic goals. The plan is reviewed with the student each semester to ensure all major program requirements, general education requirements, sequencing requirements, and student readiness is met.

Primary Duties (include but are not limited to):

• Provide services to individuals from the local community who are seeking employment and or training in demand occupations in order to gain self-sufficiency.

• Lead the promotion and facilitation of Workforce Development and educational activities on an assigned county basis. Consult and provide technical assistance to individuals and groups involved with business, industry, social service agencies, schools, and other community based organizations.

• The individual exercises daily, independent, non-routine decision making which demands initiative, management skills, sound judgment, and positive communication skills.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree or six years of experience in the area of employment and training programs, employer relations, social work, economic development, or related field.

• The ability to establish working relationships with people of diverse backgrounds and abilities is essential. Excellent communication skills (written and oral) are required.

Policy Interpretation:

PRIMARY FUNCTION: Provide comprehensive leadership and management of Vincennes University’s academic program located at the Naval Medical Center-San Diego Site.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

        ACADEMIC
  1. Student

  2. Oversee counseling, advising, and preparation of an approximate annual head count of 750 students.

  3. Ascertain appropriate modes of instruction: on-site classes, distance learning courses or college level testing, in accordance with student needs and availability of faculty.

  4. Resolve student academic issues within University policies and procedures.

  5. Counsel students (via phone, mail, e-mail or in-person) about educational options and their academic status with Vincennes University.

  6. Faculty/Staff

  7. Supervise an adjunct faculty pool of approximately 7 individuals and provide leadership and support for one part-time academic advisor.

  8. Identify and recruit qualified adjunct faculty and submit required documentation necessary for hiring.

  9. Familiarize new faculty/staff on University procedures and standards.

  10. Supervise faculty compliance with academic schedules and contact-hour requirements.

  11. Ensure regular faculty/staff evaluations are performed per University policy.

  12. Ensure faculty is supplied with appropriate course plans, textbooks, and other instructional resources.

ADMINISTRATIVE

  3. Ensure timely and accurate certification of tuition assistance, veterans' educational benefits, and/or financial aid, including the submission of any supporting documentation to the proper authority.

  4. Prohibit current term registration of any student with prior term Account Receivable balance until full payment is received.

  5. Operation

  6. Maintain student academic files and records in accordance with the Federal Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

  7. Manage student accounts receivable to include student payments, tuition assistance, payment plans, VA benefits and financial aid payments.

  8. Submit reports and administrative correspondence in accordance with University deadlines.

  9. Coordinate with various Military Educational/College Offices, applicable state approving agencies, and Veteran's Administration offices as necessary.

  10. Continually improve program effectiveness and Vincennes University’s service to students and the military.

  11. Travel as necessary to effectively recruit and retain students and/or represent the University at education fairs, other MEP site locations, and military installations as well as law enforcement agencies.

  12. Personnel

  13. Responsible for the selection, training, and supervision of all site employees and adjunct faculty.

  14. Accountable for timely and accurate processing all University paperwork affecting site personnel.

  15. Timely submission of payroll notification for all eligible site personnel within defined deadlines to main campus office.

FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT

  1. Accountability

  2. Safeguard University assets, to include physical property, inventory (textbooks, equipment, etc.), academic support materials and University funds.

  3. Collect and deposit tuition and fees in a timely manor and reconcile returned checks.

  4. Budget

  5. Monitor and control site's fiscal year budget of approximately $450,000.00 under the supervision of the Western Regional Director and Director of Military Education.

  6. Process budgeted expenses according to established University policies and procedures.

  7. Supervise invoicing and collection of all tuition and fees in accordance with University policies and procedures.

  8. Prevent uncollectible debt by ensuring all collections are within current term.

RECRUITMENT

  1. Responsible for all aspects of marketing and public relations functions at the site.

  2. Responsible for ensuring that projected growth is in line with the goal set by the MEP Director.

    Other duties as assigned by the Western Regional Director.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide leadership and guidance for the successful operation of the Vincennes University Military Education Program in the State of Washington.

POLICY FORMATION: Follow applicable University academic, advising, and administrative policies.

POLICY INTERPRETATION: University Manual, Business Office Policy, Dean of Extended Studies, and Director of the Military Education Program.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

EXPERIENCE:

 Bachelor’s degree required.

 Prior experience in academic advising at the community college level or higher.

 Experience in directing and motivating staff in a busy office environment.

 Ability to maintain orderly work environment; overall excellent organizational skills.

 Experience with the structure and function of academic advising.

Experience in most of the following areas is required: electricity, electric motor circuits, control circuits, PLC’s, hydraulics, pneumatics, robotics, safety and print reading. At least two years’ experience in an academic setting or teaching environment is preferred but not required. Must be organized, self-motivated individual who works well with the team. Good communication, presentation skills, and a positive attitude are a must.
